Permitting & Dialogue

Permitting process

The permitting of underground storage facilities is carried out in accordance with the multi-stage mining law procedure under the Federal Mining Act (BBergG) by the competent State Authority for Mining, Energy, and Geology (LBEG). Storengy Deutschland must demonstrate that impacts on protected goods are minimized and unavoidable effects are compensated.

Based on the results from the planning phase and findings from the mapping, the company conducts a preliminary environmental impact assessment and submits the documents to the responsible mining authority (LBEG) in Hanover. After reviewing the documents, the mining authority will decide whether a comprehensive environmental impact assessment is required for the entire project. Further permitting steps depend on this decision, for example, investigations into the potential effects of the overall project on the environment, nature, and humans.

Current information about the permitting process as well as possible participation procedures will be made available to the public in a timely manner on this website.
